You could say Sarah Cunningham’s 1986 Volkswagen Vanagon is like a member of the family. After Cunningham and her future husband acquired it in 2011 and later fixed it up, it’s been their vehicle to adventure.
And, it’s featured on her Team Champion Series Metal Flake Champion Sidewinder in a lighted-hearted graphic by artist Matt Moore. In it, the Vanagon romps down the road as a giant sized diaper attached to the vehicle from a big antennae flaps in the breeze.
“I thought it was perfect. It gave me a chuckle. That’s what I was looking for,” said Cunningham, who has been working with Moore on stamps for several years and met him in person for the first time in 2012, when she and husband, Aaron took the VW on a month-long honeymoon road trip playing disc golf and camping in the van.
“We had a blast. Now, we’re sharing that love of adventure, camping, and disc golf with our kids,” said Cunningham, of Greenville, S.C., who recently had a family outing in it with her two girls, Molly, 3, and Hope, 1 (hence the diaper reference).

The Vanagon has been a recurring character on Cunningham's discs. This marks the fourth stamp it's been featured on. It's first disc appearance came in the form of wedding favor discs for the Cunninghams, which Moore supplied the art for as well.
As far as choosing the Sidewinder, the 2010 World Champ said “I always like understable discs just for their versatility.” Cunningham added that she’s downsized her bag after having kids and most of them are now understable.
Not only is Cunningham a mother of two, but she’s also a physics and physical science teacher at Easley High School (S.C.). She still finds the time for disc golf and you’ll find her at the U.S. Women’s Disc Golf Championship, which she won in 2009.
